A little this, a little that

Things have been busy here lately. Yet suprisingly still relaxing. I think we have all found time to take a few minutes to ourselves each day and that has made things so much nicer.

I don't normally decorate for Valentine's Day but found myself making this easy little garland the other night. I was practicing pom poms with white yarn and then needed to find something to do with them, so this was created. First I found some scraps of red felt and just free-handed a few different sized hearts. Then I just took a double strand of white yarn in a tapestry needle and stitched everything on to a long strand. I added pom poms here and there and I think it looks cute. I added one above my living room window and one above the door leading from the living room to the kitchen.

Next up, pillows for the living room and lots and lots of things for the kitchen! I have been washing and ironing so many fun fabrics. Stay tuned.

I really am not THIS messy...

Let me start of with a few things... 1) I really am not usually this messy. 2) I was sick for two weeks before Christmas, so did not clean a whole lot. 3) We live in a tiny house, like really small, 650 sq.ft small, with four people and a husband that loves "stuff".
So I saw this post from Kojo designs and knew I had to try things out. Because I was so fed up with my bedroom I decided this was where I should start. I know I could have done a room where everyone sees it, but really those are easily picked up right now and this, well, it just wasn't. Here are some before pics of my desk and side table next to it.

It was bad... really, really bad. One of my goals this year is to really not spend money unless I need to, I decided not to buy anything new to organize it. Its a work in progress still but Its clean. I can sit at my desk and actually see the whole screen. I can light a candle on the table and not worry about burning my house down. I found things I thought I had lost long ago and I got rid of things that I have not used in months. I have a pile of things for ebay now and a stack of papers still to file, but it was raining and I needed to go play JustDance2 with the boys. :) So here is what it looks like now. Definitely better, I could vacuum, I dusted and I had a big smile on my face when it was done. Now I just need to keep it this way!

An Introduction of sorts

We are at the beginning of a new year, 2011. As with most people I have some resolutions to make, although I am not going to call them resolutions, but will call them goals for the year. I am on a quest to be a better Mommy, a better wife, a better me. Don't get me wrong, I am happy with things now, but I always think how nice it would be to be a little more organized, a little more carefree and a little less stressed nearly every day.

This is me, and my family...

I am a 34 year old, mother of 2 boys. Matt is 10 and Andrew is 5. Boys are a different breed. I have one that is mellow and quiet and another that is a show-off, ham and general funny man. The latter takes after my husband who makes a million jokes a day. We live in Southern California and we really love it for the most part. We settled here (again) after moving South for a few years.

Hope you find my quest to be enjoyable. I am sure it will be filled with ups, downs and lots of in-betweens!
